Well the class is over and grades are in. I slacked off a little getting everyone's machinimas on the site but they should be up this week. Thanks to all of my students, this was a great experience for me and I hope you all enjoyed it as well.

Halo movie

Not exactly Machinima, but the Halo movie has been shelved.

I'd heard that the studios pulled funding, but this is the first I've read of it officially from Peter Jackson.

"At this time Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, along with their partner, Microsoft, have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen."

Project Two

Game: World of Warcraft

5B: Fisbo, my character in World of Warcraft, will be waiting to ambush a group of characters on the enemy team in the Hillsbrad Foothills, a zone in World of Warcraft. I’ve been tracking the party for about 10 minutes, watching and waiting for the best time to ambush them and kill all of them.

5C: The camera won’t be a problem for capturing what I want on the screen. All the shots will be doable with minimal “setting up” having to be done. I can use some of the built-in voice acting and animations to liven up the machinima and give it a bit more realism.

The game’s camera focuses from a 3rd person point of view, but a player also has the option of playing in a first person view. This will allow me to capture 2 different perspectives. I would need to have help in filming the shot because I would need to have 3 actors playing characters on the other side. Another possibility would be for me to attack NPCs instead of players in a more controlled setting.

Machinima Fil Fest 2006

The nominees for the Machinima Film Fest 2006 are in and online. Some of you have already watched a few of these machinimas like Bloodspell, Male Restroom Etiquette, and American Baby in Iraq. I suggest checking out all of the nominees though. Mine unfortunately didn't get accepted :(, but the festival received a record number of submissions this year so that's awesome.

The Edge

The Edge
A Dystopia Machinima

Summary: A rebel assassin is sent to dispatch a hacker working for a corporation. The hacker, Sashi, has caused much chaos and killed many a rebel, and he needs to be taken care of or else they will lose the fight utterly.
Raska, an intelligent, telepathic veteran fighter, is their last hope. Everyone is setting up everyone else in this plot-heavy introduction to a further story. The Raska ends up slaughtering several dozen people after defeating Sashi, not realizing that his prize is the deadliest weapon of his time.

Mechanics: Dystopia is a Mod for Half-Life 2, so I was able to play around at length with the camera while writing this. Most of the special effects are basic in game occurances, while some slight-of-camera will be needed for things like the sparking Jack-In-Point, which will be from a bolt's electric discharge.I do wonder about a few of the shots, however, as well as keeping the camera as professional as possible while filming. I want something this epic to look as great as possible, and flimsy mouse-held camerawork will ruin it very easily.
All models being used are either helmetted, robotic, or have their lips sewn together. (The latter is the telepathic Raska) So no lip synching is required.
